It’s never too late to go on a wellness regimen, although it’s really better to start while you’re young. In the spirit of this popular line by Theodore Roosevelt, “Old age, like everything else, to make a success of it, you’ve got to start young.”
Dr. Ron Rothenberg of California Health Span Institute shares his wisdom in Suzanne Somers’ book “Breakthrough.” He is considered one of the first physicians to develop anti-aging and regenerative programs for patients, and is a firm believer in preventive medicine and lifestyle.
There is such a thing as regenerative medicine, and today there are ways to stay strong, healthy and eventually live longer.
Today’s anti-aging medicine believes that, if you start young enough, you can live a long, energetic and fruitful life.
While Rothenberg is not opposed to pharmaceutical drugs as they can be life-saving, the natural approach is strongly emphasized.
Low testosterone levels
The human race is evolving and adapting to modern times; sometimes this can be a good thing, but there is a downside.
For example, according to studies, in the 1980s, men’s average testosterone levels were in the 600s. But today, that level has gone down to 400. Various theories include xenoestrogen from insecticides, the use of plastic milk cartons, obesity, stress and other toxins.
Now here’s the crux of the matter: Low testosterone levels have been associated with cardiovascular disease, diabetes and a host of health challenges. In short, low testosterone in men could result in higher chances of contracting illness, including cancer.
If you’re apprehensive about rising synthetic hormone treatment, try bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. Your physician should know the best options.
The same applies to women. Low testosterone is associated with increased weight, slow metabolism and heart problems.

Apoptosis
Apoptosis is programmed cell death—the very reason for illness. But if it’s apoptosis of cancer cells we want, then you must take a look at inflammation. Chronic inflammation is connected to every health problem from heart disease to Alzheimer’s to cancer.
Now remember this. The cause of inflammation is NFKB (nuclear factor kappa beta) found in the cytoplasm of the cell that turns on inflammatory cytokines.
Turning off cytokines:
Stress management and reduction brings down cortisol, the stress hormone.
Exercise increases endorphins, the feel-good hormones.
Reduce body fat, as excess fat is detrimental to your health. Lean is better than meaty.
Manage blood sugar levels by controlling intake of high glycemic foods like white sugar, white pasta, rice.
Get adequate sleep, six to eight hours is enough to regenerate the body’s cells.
Avoid animal fat—limit intake of beef and pork fat.
Keep your hormones balanced, see an endocrinologist.
Take antioxidants from highly nutritious foods like leafy greens, fresh fruits.
Take omega-3 fish oil supplements.
Include these superstars in the realm of antioxidant-rich nutrients: resveratrol in grapes/red wine, curcumin (in turmeric), milk thistle and Echinacea.
One of the most important of detoxification organs is the liver. It is also the second-largest detox organ next to the skin. The liver is probably one of the most neglected organs of the body. Its job is to remove toxins that would otherwise cause cancer.
But the liver needs help. If you are consuming large amounts of vegetables and fruits as part of your daily diet, then chances are your liver is in a good state of health.
Today’s affirmation: “Victory is mine—now and always.”
Love and light!
